Yantai's Economy

Yantai is a pivotal city in the Blue Economic Zone of the Shandong Peninsula. It is one of the first 14 coastal open cities in China and a key port in the "Belt and Road Initiative" national strategy. Uniquely, it is the only international wine city in Asia, a renowned tourist destination, a summer retreat, and an outstanding national tourist city. In 2023, Yantai welcomed 87.9 million domestic tourists and achieved a total tourism revenue of 101.188 billion yuan. By the end of the year, there were 3 national-level and 7 provincial-level tourist resorts. The number of national A-level tourist scenic areas reached 85, with 2 rated 5A and 21 rated 4A. Serving as the largest port city in the Shandong Peninsula and a national economic center, Yantai is one of the cradles of modern industry in China. It has developed a comprehensive industrial framework that covers light industry, food, building materials, machinery, electronic information, metallurgy, chemical fiber and textiles, chemical engineering, coal, biomedicine, automobiles, and other sectors. In 2023, the industrial added value of large-scale industries increased by 11.7%.
